Can a Watch make you Smarter?

Is there a watch that makes you feel smarter?  Don’t laugh this is an almost serious question that I’m sure somewhere in the back of our minds subconsciously we all think this as we are buying an Oris watch.

As some of you may know I am rather fond of a fine cigar and enjoy relaxing on the deck discussing different styles and flavours of cigars.  But there is a certain size of cigar like a Laguito or Long Panetelas that has the same diameter as a great fountain pen and feels wonderful in the hand.  It regularly inspires comment of “This cigar in my hand just makes me feel smarter!”  Now there is another world entirely of debate about cigars but the thought that this single object could make you feel smarter may also be true for watches.

Last week I discussed the difference between sporty and work watches, is there a watch that makes you feel smarter.  Now I can hear a lot of you already saying Smithy you will need more than one watch to make you smarter (that may actually be the truth) but I feel that when I am buying a watch it needs to help me be smarter.

There is no doubt that an Artelier Chronograph is going to make me feel smarter, hell it will also make me look smarter.  I just don’t feel I am going to get that same smart felling when I wear a TT3 Day Date, slick watch and all just don’t come with that smart man feeling.  The Chronoris has a smart man feeling to it, with just that touch of orange colour your brain is telling you that your are retro cool therefore walking to the beat of your own drum and a smart man.  Put on the Oris Swiss Hunter Team LE and instantly you’re smarter, that history of the jet is running up your arm and into your brain.  People will not be able to help themselves with how smart you have become once they see your new 3 times zones on the Oris BC4 Flight Timer.

So you can see a watch can make you smarter, not sure if it will make you brighter but at least in my mind I am smarter.
