Great Barrier Reef LE

Every Australian knows where the Great Barrier Reef is, stretching from the tip of Cape York down almost the length of the Queensland coast.  A distance of over 2,600km made up of thousands of smaller reefs, it is truly one of the natural wonders of the world.  Tourists from all over the world visit the Great Barrier Reef to dive on the reef and view the natural beauty that is amazing.

I grew up in North Queensland and the reef was a part of my lifestyle, regularly going out to dive, walk, fish and explore the reef was how I spent many holidays.  Every dive would reveal new and exciting animal finds around every coral outcrop.  Throughout the day the movement of the sun would change how the reef appears from just a few hours earlier.  Returning back from a dive to the boat or an island base every conversation would be filled with excitement about something new and different from previous dives.  The colours are vivid and dynamic; anybody who has been to the Great Barrier Reef will never forget those colours or the experience.

Capturing this emotion in a watch is a difficult thing to do; Oris have come as close as one can to gathering that feeling of the reef and the colours in the Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition.  It would be easy to simply say that they watch is a combination of the two previous models of the Oris Diver Small Second but it is more than that.  The Great Barrier Reef’s blues are truly inspiring from the deep blues on the massive drop offs into the Pacific Ocean, right through to the light blues of the waters lapping the shallows of small coral cays.  These blue colours are the foundation from which the Great Barrier Reef rises from.  Yet the delicate orange is as integral as the blue, several of the corals on the reef and the king of reef fish the Coral Trout.

A diver’s watch that is inspired by the Great Barrier Reef and one that reflects the colours and energy from the reef.  The watch is also the first time that Oris have used the sale of a watch as a direct donation to an organisation.  The Australia Marine Conservation Society does fantastic work of research on the Great Barrier Reef to conserve it for future generations to enjoy.  What a wonderful gift to be giving for purchasing a watch.  That little piece of mind that you will have every time you look at your watch knowing that this watch has help in some small part to saving the Great Barrier Reef.  Oris should be applauded for its initiative with this watch and their donation.  Also for the number that have been made, only 1000, making it a proper limited edition watch.

Well done Oris on this Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition.
