Oris Watch Blog
Like a moth to flame
For a guy who is an ORIS Authorised Dealer, I am not the most technically adept person. Yes I can talk and understand movements, babble on about the Rattrapante, Fly Wheel and Tourbillon. Yet to be completely honest, it is not what first drew me to mechanical watches and ORIS which is my sole watch passion. For first time investigators of mechanical watches.....or old hands....I doubt it is, or was, your initial attraction ![]()
There is a magic to mechanical watches. They drew me in like a moth to flame. I love the symbiotic relationship between mechanical watch and man....they rely on us as much as we depend on them. The reality is that they are flawed geniuses, not soulless battery operated appendages destined to a life of mediocrity ![]()
In my early days I studied relentlessly the detail of mechanical movement but it was style which captured my imagination. IWC, Panerai, Rolex, Patek. Yet it was a brand I had never heard of before in ORIS which caused my heart to miss a beat. Nearing 100 years of history and from Holstein in Switzerland...how could I have missed it and how in Hades could they produce a collection of mechanical watches with such style and such a level of affordability? I fell in love and the rest is history. Today Friends of ORIS is a testament to not only my passion but the passion of thousands of ORIS zealots from around the world.
Over the near decade I have been involved with ORIS watches I have always wondered if I would lose my passion. It hasn’t happened to date. The strength of ORIS has always been its design and today was a classic example.
I love this time of year as it is like Christmas morning every week! The new ORIS collections are arriving in dribs and drabs and every other day an ORIS watch I have not seen before comes across my hands! Nirvana!
Well today the ORIS BC4 PVD Chronograph arrived and I must say I was awestruck. The watch is dark, brooding, menacing with a crystal clear dial, and a presence set off by its 45mm diameter. I am a sucker for style and this has style in spades. From the hexagonal case screws to a case design taken straight from a cockpit I felt like I was in a Hurricane aircraft over London in the Battle of Britain. What is it about watches which fuels the imagination!

While ORIS continues to produce watches of such style and emotion the future is bright. Kudos to all who were involved in the execution of this masterpiece!
